Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation

Established in the framework of the Commercial and Economic Cooperation Agreement signed between the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Tajikistan on 8 April 1993, the 7th and 8th Meetings of Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation of Tajikistan and Turkey were held in Dushanbe on 19-23 April 2009, and in Ankara on 29-30 November 2012.

9th Meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Dushanbe on 15-16 February 2017. The delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan was headed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mr. Nematullo Hikmatullozoda and the delegation of the Republic of Turkey – by the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Tuğrul Türkeş.

During the meeting the partıes discussed expansion of cooperation for the purpose of increasing the volume of trade turnover between the two countries, attraction of investments for implementation of joint projects, establishment of joint industrial enterprises, development of cooperation in free economic zones, agriculture, transport and other sectors.

Traditionally, Tajik-Turkish relations are based on the principles of comprehensive and mutually beneficial partnership. A wide range of cooperation is based on the true friendship of our people. Both sides stressed the importance of developing cooperation in the fields of investment, industry, energy, agriculture, transport, customer service, banking, culture and tourism, technical regulation, standardization, labor, health and education.

The sides also noted that despite the expansion of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, the volume of trade turnover does not reflect the actual potential of the two countries.

It should be emphasızed that during the meeting of the Commission the parties discussed implementation of Protocol of the 8th Meeting of Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Trade Cooperation of Tajikistan and Turkey the Intergovernmental Tajik-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission, which was held in Ankara on November 29-30, 2012.

In cooperation and coordination with relevant structures of the two countries in the framework of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Trade Cooperation on February 16, 2017 in Dushanbe there was organized a Tajik-Turkish Business Forum which was held with participation of the two countriesbusiness circles and members of the Economic Cooperation Council of Turkey. Representatives of 50 Turkish companies and more than 150 businessmen of Tajikistan have participated in the event, where they had an opportunity to discuss  the possibilities of cooperation in the agricultural machinery, construction products, logistics, jewelry products, IT technologies, food and drink production, and etc.

At the end of the meeting the relevant protocol was signed.

Two countries have established a solid legal basis throughout their relations, in the beginning of 2017 it has reached more than 65 bilateral documents. These documents highlight the fundamental principles of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Turkey in all sectors, including economic and trade ones.
